Mistakes.

Mistakes. A common thread that runs through all of us. After all, ‘to err is human’. But, are we allowed to make them? Are we considered normal if we make them?

We live in a world that craves perfection. A world which celebrates you if you haven’t made any mistakes. We’ve often heard the saying that the people who learn from others’ mistakes are extremely intelligent. Albeit, I beg to differ.

The purest form of freedom that one can attain in today’s time is the freedom to commit mistakes and to learn from them, without fearing the consequences. The sad news is that most of us are still far far away from getting such freedom.

One needs their fair share of mistakes, because the absence of mistakes indicates the absence of experience and ultimately marks the absence of life. We must make mistakes or at least give ourselves the space to make them.

So cut yourself some slack, be a bit impulsive, and let yourself be. Go where the path takes you. And if it is a mistake, we can always learn from it. So, make mistakes, learn from them, gain experiences and let yourself be a little flawed in this pseudo-perfectionist world.

  1. You are absolutely right - "to err is human" and that intelligent people learn from their mistakes. Both are correct and run hand in hand but are incomplete. Intelligent people learn from their mistakes and try not to repeat those mistakes. Fools do it over and over again hoping for a different result.
